LG Chem starts exporting bio-based phenol and acetone products

Latest News: LG Chem Co., Ltd. (Seoul, South Korea) has started exporting its first batch of biobalanced phenol and acetone. The product uses renewable biological raw materials such as biomass or waste cooking oil, and has obtained the global sustainable eco-friendly material certification–International Sustainability and Carbon Certification PLUS (ISCC).
PLUS).

LG Chem will export 4,000 tons of phenol and 1,200 tons of acetone, for a total of 5,200 tons, the largest quantity of ISCC PLUS certified products that South Korea has ever exported.

Phenol is the raw material for the initial process of polycarbonate, a high-performance engineering plastic used in the manufacture of auto parts, and resins produced from phenol are also partly used in components for electrical and electronic products and building materials such as insulators.

Acetone has good solubility and is mainly used in the production of solvents, such as detergents and paint thinners, and is widely used throughout the industry as a raw material for artificial marble and other building materials.

Phenol and acetone from LG Chem’s Daesan plant will be exported to Germany’s leading renewable polymer producer’s plants in China and Thailand, where biobalance chemicals are used to make polycarbonate, a highly functional plastic.

Since LG Chem first started exporting biobalanced SAP (Super Absorbent Polymer) in August last year, the company has launched 41 ISCC products.
PLUS certified products, including polyolefins, ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), NPG (neopentyl glycol), phenol, acetone, etc., accelerate the development of new markets and customers .

LG Chem expects to be awarded ISCC amid growing demand and demands from customers looking to produce bio-balanced products to lead global ESG trends
The PLUS certified eco-friendly products business will continue to expand in global markets including Europe and the United States.
