From the reaction of morpholine and bromoethane:
Morpholine was slowly added to bromoethane under stirring and cooling to control the reaction temperature below 70°C. After the addition, the reaction was refluxed for 6 hours. After recovering the bromoethane, it was cooled and neutralized with a 50% sodium hydroxide solution to strong alkalinity. The oil layer was separated, and the water layer was extracted with ether. The extract was incorporated into the oil layer, the ether was recovered, dried with anhydrous sodium carbonate, and then subjected to atmospheric pressure fractionation to obtain N-ethylmorpholine.
N-ethylmorpholine is a medium-strength tertiary amine catalyst. It is mainly used as a polyester-based polyurethane soft foam catalyst in the polyurethane industry. It has good skin formation performance and can still have a relatively good reaction on the gel after the foam rises to a high point. The strong catalysis makes the cells expand to a large extent.
Used as a solvent, but also for organic synthesis. Used as a solvent for oils and resins, and as an intermediate for organic synthesis. This product is soluble in water, alcohol and ether. It can be used as an intermediate for solvents, catalysts, dyes, pharmaceuticals, and surfactants. It can also be used in the production of preservatives, emulsifiers, and coatings.
