Features and uses:

1,8-Diazabicycloundec-7-ene is used as a catalyst in the polyurethane industry. It is a highly active low-odor gel catalyst, mainly used in occasions where strong gel catalysis is required, including Formulas containing alicyclic isocyanates or aliphatic isocyanates, because they are not as active as aromatic isocyanates, so a strong catalyst is required;

 

The activity of 1,8-diazabicycloundec-7-ene catalyst is obviously enhanced with the increase of temperature. For example, the catalytic rate constant of DBU for isocyanate-alcohol and isocyanate-water reaction at 70℃ is 25℃. 67 times and 35 times, and the catalytic activity of the commonly used bicyclic tertiary amine catalyst triethylenediamine increased to 5 times and 6 times;

 

The 1,8-diazabicycloundec-7-ene catalyst can be used in the formulations of integral skin foam, microcellular elastomer, and hard foam.

 

The main use of DBU is as an excellent organic base deacidifier for drug synthesis. It can replace organic bases such as triethylamine, N,N-xylidine, pyridine and quinoline, and is widely used in organic synthesis and semi-synthetic antibiotics. It can obtain satisfactory results in the dehydrohalogenation reaction. It is widely used in the production of cephalosporin semi-synthetic antibiotic drugs, such as ammonia and dichloroethane in the presence of DBU to generate piperazine. It can also be used as an epoxy resin hardener, rust inhibitor, can be formulated with high corrosion inhibitors, and used as a catalyst for other chemical reactions.

 

Application of DBU on epoxy resin DBU hardly reacts with epoxy resin in the range of room temperature to 40℃, and the epoxy resin can be gelled within 15min when the temperature is increased to 100℃. In epoxy resin, DBU is mainly used as a curing accelerator for epoxy resin for encapsulation of integrated circuits and electronic components. When used in the form of DBU salt, the package is heated and the DBU dissociates out to promote curing.

 

The combination of DBU and novolac is a light yellow solid, which changes the shortcomings of DBU’s easy hydrolysis in a humid environment. Therefore, the epoxy molding compound for IC packaging composed of it has good resistance to humidity and heat and high pressure cooking performance.
